As part of the larger project for removal of the Elwha Dam the National Forest Service let this contract for the construction of a new marine outfall for Nippon's paper facility in Port Angeles. Due to unpredictable weather and wave conditions at this site, Bergerson Construction elected to perform the work from a temporary pile-supported work trestle. Temporary sheetpile were installed to limit the amount of in-water and shoreline excavation needed for installation of the new 24" diameter HDPE outfall pipe. The outfall pipe extended approximately 220' from a connection point on the beach to a previously installed underwater section of outfall pipe.
